Welcome to Comic Art Portfolio, a curated collection showcasing my original comic art. I began collecting OA in 2020 during the Covid Pandemic, but my love of comics and super heroes began in the 1980s and 1990s, buying comics in my youth. I have been married for over 20 years and have two daughters. Because of my girls, much of early collecting focused on strong female characters, however, over time my collecting strategy has evolved to primarily first appearance art.

My Collecting Mindset

First Appearance Art

The question is often asked of what constitutes first appearance art. This will elicit a variety of responses, with terms like cameo, first-ever, and the dreaded "b-word". I classify first appearance art as the cover or ANY interior page from the issue in which the character is first shown. Having also collected sports cards and comic books, first appearance art is akin to a character's "rookie card" in my mind. This narrow focus helps me stay selective when buying art.
